LOCKPORT — Cecelia Ann (Giambattista) Alati, 90, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011, at Niagara Hospice in Lockport, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Serofino and Vincenza (Torchetti) Giambattista.

Cecelia, a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1940. On September 27, 1941, she married Frank Alati at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Alati predeceased her on April 24, 2001. Cecelia was an Avon representative since 1958. In 1995 she was selected to represent Niagara County for the Governors Conference. She also established the Nigarian Group Leaders Club, as well as serving as the group leader for 21 years. She started the Red Hat Society of Ladies of the Mist as "Queen Mom". Cecelia was a longtime devout member of Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish, as well as their Madonna Del Perpetuo Soccorso Society, and a charter member of the Former Guild of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Cecelia was also a member of several area organizations which included the Socialite Club, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Seniors, St. Joseph Senior Society, AARP 283, Council of Older Adults, the John Duke Senior Center and the Retired Senior Volunteers, and served as an officer or as a member of the board of directors for many of them. She was the recipient of the Tops Good Neighbor Award, the AARP 283 President's Award and the Columbian Award from the Cristoforo Colombo Society.

Cecelia is survived by two children, Elaine (Michael) Palumbo of Niagara Falls, NY and James (Doreen) Alati of the Town of Wheatfield; six grandchildren, Michael (Megan) Palumbo, Virginia (Richard) Cantara, Lucia (Christopher) Dixon, James Alati, Nicholas Alati and Allison Alati; six great-grandchildren, Julia and Luke Dixon, Lauren and Amelia Cantara, Jillian and Jake Palumbo; two brothers, Serofino (Martha) Giambattista and William (Josefa) Giambattista of Las Vegas, NV; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one sister, Anne (late Joseph) Manuse; and brother, Nick (Pearl of Las Vegas, NV) Giambattista.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 1–4 and 6–9 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where services will begin on Friday, July 29th at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S, officiating. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
