Services for James Vercie Adams, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapel with burial in Riverwood Memorial Park.

Visitation is Monday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Adams, 84, died Nov. 21, 2009, at his residence. He was born in Lincoln County on May 16, 1925, to Vercie Adams and Lillie Laird Adams.

He was retired from Ocean Drilling and Exploration Co. as a general drilling superintendent. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was wounded during the Battle of Aachen. He was inducted into the Purple Heart Hall of Fame in New York.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and an infant sister.

Survivors are his wife of 66 years, Donnis Allred Adams, of Brookhaven; his sons, Jimmy and wife, Judy, of Brookhaven, and Greg and wife, Mary Ann, of Bogue Chitto; his grandchildren, Kim and Ronnie Keene, Nona Carol and Todd Chauvin, Heath and Ali Adams, Cory Adams, Matt Boone and Jason Boone; his great-grandchildren, Kaylee Beth Keene, Derek Keene, Christian Keene, Aaron Lefebvre, Zac, Jake and Maddison Chauvin, Laceton Boone, and Brock and Emma Adams; his brother, Jerry Adams, of Tupelo; and his sisters, Beulah Wall and Carolyn Case, both of Brookhaven, Inez Harold, of Nashville, Tenn., and Louise Pearson, of Meridian.

Pallbearers are Heath Adams, Cory Adams, Ronnie Keene, Matt Boone, Brock Adams and Aaron LeFebvre.
