John Duran, age 89, of Montrose Co, passed away on Monday, June 7, 1993, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.

He was born on July. 11, 1903 in Las Vegas, N.M. On Aug. 6, 1928 he was married at Las Vegas, N.M to Mary Garduno. He is survived by three sons and two daghters; Natch Duran, Olatha; Ernest Duran, Thornton; Robert Duran, Commerce City; Genivie Lucero, The Dalles, Ore., and Mary Lou Duran, Aurora. There are 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Mr John Duran is my grandfather who I miss so much. Grandpa worked for the City of Montrose for many years. His dedication to his job was amazing. He would never miss a day of work. When it came time to retire, he was forced against his will. I remember he was so angry because he knew he had it in him to still work hard.

Before his wife and family settled in Montrose, he was a farmer in Wilson Colorado. He also was a lumber jack at the same time. He did what he had to do to support his family. He later met Mary Duran and they were married and settled in Montrose Colrado were they raised their family

My Grandpa was always so kind to me. I use too sit in his room and talk to him. He always had some amazing stories of many famous people he met. He did some traveling in his earlier years. I always knew he was always truthful and his kindness drew comfort to me. He had a big garden covering two and a half lots. He once grew a 85 pound pumkin. He was so dedicated to that garden. All the years of growing up with him, he always woke up at the break of dawn at 4AM. However, he was always in bed at 8 or 9. When he ended up in the old folks home, I use to visit him and bring him chili. Real Chile, that is. My dear grandfather passed away from complications of a broken hip. It was much to painful for his age to handle the pain. This crushed my heart, but my grandfather lived a long happy life. May God always keep him in his memory until resurection. Love You Grandpa....~
