Richard H. Bergerstock, 73, of Poplar Cove, Auburn, died Friday, July 1, 2011, at Auburn Memorial Hospital. Dick was born in Auburn on March 26, 1938, to Harold and Josephine Murphy Bergerstock. He was a member of the graduating class of 1956 at Genoa High School. Dick was a self-employed insurance agent for many years, operating Bergerstock Insurance Agency. In his earlier years he owned and operated a service station at the former five points location. Dick was a volunteer firefighter for a great deal of his life with the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department, and with the Fleming Volunteer Fire Department, both Company No. 1 and No. 2. He was one of the founders of the Cayuga County Fire Police Association, and was recognized as 'Fire Policeman of the Year' in 1991. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where he had previously served as president of the Men's Club. He had served as Town of Fleming Constable, and had been active in the Boy Scouts of America program, traveling to the National Jamboree in Colorado. An avid hunter he was a member of the NRA and operated a private gun shop from his home. Dick is survived by his wife, Olive Tripp Bergerstock, with whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage in December of this year; a daughter, Michele (Thomas) Simpson of Maryland, four sons, Richard C. Thompson of Auburn, Dale W. Thompson of Florida, Brian R. Thompson of Auburn, and Dana (Melissa) Bergerstock of Marietta; 12 grandchildren, a brother, Dr. Thomas (Carolyn) Nolan of Pennsylvania.
