Bill had a passion for building. After retirement he and Marilyn moved to the home he built on Arbutus Lake. They spent their winters in Palmetto, FL. Bill was a life member, past commander, and longtime service officer of the VFW post 701 in Lansing. He was a member of the DAV Allen Auto Chapter No. 38 and past commander in Traverse City.
Surviving family members are his wife, Marilyn; son, Edwin W. Jr.; sister-in-law, Betty Koons; nephews, Jim and Dan Koons; cousin, Jean Chamberlain; stepson, George (Karyen) Lipscomb; grandchildren, Alexia, Lea, and Steven.
Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother Jerry G. Koons.
No funeral services were planned. Inurnment took place later.
Bill would like to be remembered for his love and faithful service to his country and those who have served in the armed services. Memorial contributions may be given in his name for any organizations helping veterans and disabled returning service men and women. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
