Director and conductor of the Trapp Family Singers. He was ordained a priest in 1929, after graduating from the University of Innsbruck. He spent time in Tyrol and Rome before returning to Salzburg in 1934. It was there he first met Captain Georg von Trapp. Georg had lost his fortune in the Great Depression of the early 1930's and was forced to rent out rooms in his home to make ends meet. Father Wasner was able to convince Georg that his family had talent and that they could earn a living by singing. In 1937 the Trapp Family Choir undertook it's first European tour. After the Nazi occupation of Austria he left the country with the family in 1938. They toured extensively from 1940 until 1955, with Father Wasner as their director, conductor and arranger. When the group disbanded he found missionary work on the Fiji Islands until 1966. He was then appointed rector of the Collegio Santa Maria dell'Anima which he held for 15 years. In the stage play and film of The Sound of Music he was represented by the character Max Detweiler.
