TRAVERSE CITY — Peter Paul Brown, 73, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Munson Medical Center.

Peter was born in Midland on April 1, 1933, the son of Christine Elinor (McKome) and Peter Brignal Brown. Following graduation from high school, he entered the service of our country, serving in Korea with the United States Army during the Korean War.

Peter married Eleanor "Nell" Jane Miller on Feb. 10, 1968, in Saginaw. Together, they moved to Traverse City in 1969, where they owned and operated the 7-11 store on 14th Street. Nell preceded Peter in death on July 22, 1997.

Following the sale of the store, Peter found enjoyment working at Maxbauer's Ace Hardware.

He was a member and past president of the Korean War Veterans, a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, in which he was actively involved for 36 years, and was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He had a leading role in the erection of the Korean Conflict Memorial on Grandview Parkway and performed the dedication ceremony for the monument.

Peter enjoyed playing golf and will always be remembered as a caring person, always looking out to help others.

Survivors include his son, Peter of Saginaw; his daughters, Jill (John) Horn of Thrall, Texas, and Mary Ann Black and Christy Ford, both of Traverse City; seven grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Simonetti of Denver, Colo.; numerous nieces and nephews; and the mother of his son and daughter, Joyce A. Driest of Saginaw.

In addition to his wife, Nell, Peter was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tom, Chris and John; and his sister, Elinor.

Visitation will take place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, with Deacon Rene Hoenscheid officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
