World's Oldest Person. When Eugenie passed away, she had been certified as having been the world's oldest living person by the Gerontology Research Group, which tracks people of extremely old age. The Guinness Book of World Records also recognized her as the world's oldest person. The former nun had been living at the Bruyn Hospital in the geriatric ward since 1980. She lived much of her life in a convent in the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao before returning to St. Barts, where she lived in a quaint house in the Merlette district with a cat as her only companion, before moving to the hospital. She was 114-years-old.
