Raised in Chicago, George moved to Wheeling in the 1960's, before relocating to Mt. Prospect in 1967 and McHenry in 2000. For over 40 years, he worked in the tool and die industry and owned Angle Tool in Elk Grove.
An avid bowler, George was proud to have achieved bowling a 300 game. Camping and fishing were favorite pastimes, especially fishing trips to northern Minnesota as well as Canada. During the past three years, George enjoyed spending winters in Arizona.
Survivors include four children, Ken (Debbie) Ahlers, Janine (Richard) Bruce, Steven Ahlers (Michelle Slimko), and Amy (Dave) Wasmund; 11 grandchildren, Mark (Christine), Erin, Lauren, Ryan, Meghan, Skye, Austin, Tyler, Amber, Brendan, and Carlie; and two great-grandchildren, Calen and Lia.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, on October 13, 2010; his brother, J. Dennis Ahlers; and his sister, Carole Rasmussen.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Justen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3700 Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL. The funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
