The funeral services of Mrs. Mary Billingsley were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the home of her son, John Billingsley, two miles east of Covington, on the Brown Pike. A large number of relatives and friends were in attendance. The services were conducted by Rev. J. D. Gold, a former pastor. Interment was made in Highland Cemetery.
Mrs. Mary E. Billingsley was born August 11, 1825, and was married to Thomas Billingsley in 1848. There was born to them one son, John E. Billingsley, at whose home she died May 4, 1912. She was 86 years, eight months and twenty-four days old.
She had been a member of the Presbyterian Church in Covington for about fifty years, having united with the old church which stood on the site of the present M. E. church. The church disbanded many years ago, and the remaining members were given letters of dismission. About twelve years ago she was received into the present church on the corner of Pearl and Wright streets by the Rev. James D. Gold, who gave her pastoral attention during her last illness.
Mrs. Billingsley, who was affectionately known as "Aunt Mary," was of a most kindly disposition, and her home was always a welcome retreat for her pastor and numerous other friends. Her life was gentle and the elements so mixed in her that all could say this was a Christian.
