South-African born Jamaican novelist. After leaving South Africa in 1939 he worked as a sailor and then a journalist in London. In the 50s he moved to Jamaica. Many of his works dealt with the political struggles of black people. The writer was found murdered at his home in Jamaica at the age of 97.
