South Dansville/Cohocton/Rochester — Harold C. Allen, 88, of 406 Chapman Way, Lexington, Ohio, died Wednesday (June 1, 2011), at Crystal Care Center of Mansfield, Mansfield. He had been ill the past few months.

Harold was born in Mercer, Pa., on Aug. 15, 1922, to the late Oscar and Vera (Crawford) Allen. He married Dorothy L. Lang on Dec. 8, 1951, and she survives him.

He has lived in Lexington, Ohio since July 2006, having moved from Placida, Fla. He and his wife had previously lived in Wellsville. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force, serving in World War II. He retired in 1984 from the Air Preheater Co. after 32 years in engineering sales. He was a firefighter for 25 years with the Dyke Street Engine Co. #2 of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department. He loved to fish, golf and garden. He was a proud supporter of his family.

He is survived by his two sons, his daughter and stepson, Jim Allen of Dyer, Ind., Barb and Bob Lee of Crestline, Ohio, Gary and Doreen Allen, of Jackson, Calif., Ken and Kathy Howden of Brookings, Ore.; six grandchildren, Jeremy Allen, Rachel Allen, Brian and Krystal Lee, Rod and Kirsten Howden, Kyle and Shana Howden and Brendan Howden; and one great-granddaughter, Alivia Lee.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Oscar Allen and Donald Allen and an infant brother, Demar, and his stepson, Robert Howden.

Friends may call Saturday (June 4, 2011) from 11 a.m.-noon at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 223 W. Main St., Crestline, OH 44827. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday (June 4, 2011) at Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline, with Rev. Michael Corwin officiating. Military honors will be given by the U.S. Air Force and the Crestline/Galion veterans organizations following the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dyke Street Engine Co. #2 or Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department, in care of the funeral home.
