Sgt. Jay G. Alms, 24, last stationed at the army air base, Columbia, South Carolina, has been killed in an airplane crash and the body is being sent here by train to the Owen and Barth mortuary for arrangements.
No details of the fatality were made available, beyond a news report that two planes crashed head on.
Alms, who enlisted May 9, 1942, graduated from radio and gunnery schools and won his wings only last month.
He had been an employee of radiio station WGKV and before that worked at the Westvaco Chlorine Products Company plant. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Alms, 315 Virginia Street West, a brother, Clyde Jr., now stationed at the Miami Beach, Florida, army air base, and a sister, Virginia.
