Sergeant Major. Among the first to be promoted the Army's newly created rank of Sergeant Major in 1959. He may be most notably known for being the longest serving First Sergeant in US Army History (15 years and 5 months). From January 1942 until April 1959 First Sergeant Bellingham served continually as a First Sergeant except for an 18 month tour at the Universtiy of Georgia' ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Unit. He enlisted in the US Army on 06 Feb 1936 in Seattle, Washington. After just 6 years as a Tanker at both Fort Lewis, Washington and Fort Benning, Georgia, he was promoted to the First Sergeant of the 6th Armored Division at Fort Knox, Kentucky in January 1942. During World War II he was the First Sergeant of the First Reconnaissance Company in the European Theather seeing action in France, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg. During the Korean War, Bellingham served as a First Sergeant throughout 5 seperate Campaigns. In 1957 he was interviewed on the Today Show by Dave Garroway. On the day of his death, his residence was listed as Sun City, Maricopa, Arizona, USA.
