General referee in bankruptcy from 1924 to 1939 in Kent County and a practicing attorney for more than half century. Father, James Blair, was an early postmaster in Grand Rapids and one of the first directors of the Old National Bank (Old Kent Bank). Charles B. Blair graduated from Harvard University in 1880 where he was a classmate of Theodore Roosevelt, with whom he shared the hobby of collecting antique European maps. He also graduated from the University of Michigan law school. His wife was Mary Emma Covode of Pennsylvania, daughter of "Honest" John Covode a congressman at the time of the Civil War. Charles and Emma had four children, Charles, Margaret, John & James.
