Nona Aline Smith was born 14 Aug 1904 to parents Zelma Emma Adams and Jefferson Clarence Smith in what was then Indian Territory, as Oklahoma did not become a state until 1907. She spent the first years of her life in Oklahoma City, Indian Territory, until she and her family moved to Los Angeles CA to be near her father, Jefferson Clarence Smith, who was admitted to the Old Soldier's Home in Sawtelle, CA in 1917 for injuries he received in the Philippine Insurrection. She married first Claude W. Davenport 12 Aug 1920 in Los Angeles, CA and they had two children:

LaVeda Marjorie (b.1921) - Memorial # 59796297
Claude W. Jr (b.1922) - Memorial # 85864256

After the death of her first husband, she was living in (Sawtelle) West Los Angeles when she married 2nd James W Compher on 12 Apr 1927 in Santa Ana, CA. He had been admitted to the Pacific Branch, Old Soldier's Home in Sawtelle on 13 Nov 1926 and discharged on his own recognizance on 8 Mar 1927. He had served as a Private in Cos M & G of the 12th Calvary from 16 Sep 1920 to 25 Jul 1921, then again as a Private in Co L, 15th Infantry from 31 Jul 1924 to 25 Sep 1925. Unfortunately, James W Compher died from meningitis and Tuberculosis on 7 Sep 1927 within 6 months of their marriage and she was widowed again. He died in Los Angeles, CA and his remains were interred in Arlington National Cemetery, VA.

Her third marriage was to Forest W. "Lucky" Gilbreath in 1935. He was recently divorced from Charity Beulah Henderson, the widow of Alfred Joshua Houchen who died on 23 May 1926 from septicemia as a result of injuries he received in an industrial work related accident. Lucky and Beulah were married 26 Jun 1928 in Sawtelle, CA and were divorced 6 Oct 1934.

Lucky & Nona Gilbreath moved to the San Fernando Valley, more particularly Van Nuys, CA, and by 1943 they settled in Talent, a small town in Jackson County, southern Oregon where they owned and operated a Mobil service station in the center of town. About 1974 they sold their business in Talent and moved a little north to another small town, Phoenix, OR. After the death of her husband Lucky, Nona moved back to Talent to a retirement home built next door to the home and business they once owned.

Nona Aline (Smith) Davenport-Compher-Gilbreath died on 22 July, 1983 and was buried with her husband at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford, Oregon. She outlived both of her children and was survived by 3 of her 4 grandchildren.
