Dr. Arnold I. Blake a pediatrician for 40 years was on the staffs of Mercy Hospital and Baystate Medical Center. Born in Springfield, he was a graduate of the former Classical High School, the University of Massachusetts and the Boston University School of Medicine. He served his internship at Georgetown University and received pediatric residency training at Boston Children's Hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the China-Burma-India Theater. He was a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, treasurer of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the New England Pediatrics Society, the Jewish Nursing Home of Western Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Hampden District Medical Society, Maimonides Medical Society, the American Medical Association and International Pediatrics Society. He was on the teaching faculty of Tufts University and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He was a member of Sinai Temple and its Brotherhood. He was certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, was a clinical faculty member of the Tufts School of Medicine and was chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of the Hampden County March of Dimes Chapter. At the time of his passing he left his wife, the former Laura Williams; three daughters, Deborah B. Pruitt of Los Angeles, Amy B. Wegener of Broomall, Pa., and Dr. Emily Blake of Philadelphia; a brother, Ernest of Longmeadow; and two grandchildren. He was 77 years old when he passed. He was my pediatrician during the 1950's, when doctors, such as he, regularly made home visits to treat their patients. He was a person who was truly respected, loved, and trusted and will be sorely missed.
