Elizabeth Hall was the daughter of John C. and Julia (Dittrick) Hall, born April 2nd, 1887 in Leigh, Colfax County, Nebraska. Her parents were both emigrants. John had come to America with his father, Christian Hall [b.Jan 25, 1833], and his mother, Caroline Hall [b.July 2, 1838], when he was about 6 years of age, in about 1866. He initially said he had been born on the Isle of Raegan in the North Sea [but later would change it to Germany or Prussia], on Aug 30, 1859; two younger siblings would be born in America when the family first settled in Iowa. Per the 1880 Census, the family lived in Pike, Muscatine County, Iowa where John, single and 21 yrs. of age, was a blacksmith. He had a younger sister, Anna, age 9, b. Iowa, and a younger brother, Albert, age 7, also born in Iowa. His parents stated they were both Prussian. When they 1st came to America, Christian Hall went by the name "Christ Hall", which I'm sure was like calling Caroline "Carol". He later went by "Christian Hall" and was a farmer in 1880. Caroline Hall died July 13, 1907 in Knox Co., Nebraska and was buried at Jelen Cemetery, Knox Co., NE. In 1910, Christian Hall, now a widower, lived with his younger son, Albert Hall, his wife, Sarrah (b.1877, Nebraska), and their 2 sons, Edward, age 8, and George, age 4, both born in Nebraska. They lived in Bohemia, Knox Co., Nebraska and Christian did not list any occupation but stated he had his "own income". Christian J. Hall died Jan 15, 1911 and was buried by his wife at Jelen Cemetery in Knox Co., NE. It was at this time that came to Oregon with his wife, Julia Dittrick. Julia Dittrick had emigrated from Austria in 1876, when she was 10 years of age; she had been b.July, 1865. John and Julia had married in 1885 in Nebraska. Elizabeth Hall was the younger of two children, having an older brother, John C. Hall, Jr., b.May, 1885. Her brother may have remained in Nebraska when she and her parents came to Oregon from their last home, listed in 1910 as Verdigre, Knox Co., NE. In 1900, they had lived in Battle Creek Village, Madison Co., NE. Elizabeth and her parents came to Oregon in 1912, following the death of both of her father's parents; they first settled in Monroe, Benton County, Oregon. Elizabeth had been a school teacher in Nebraska as of 1910, and this was her occupation again in Monroe, Oregon. She also lived in a boarding house in 1920, before meeting Frank Ackerman. Her father was a Nurseryman and he & her mother purchased property in the North Albany area of Benton County. It was about this time that Elizabeth met Frank Ackerman, a native Oregonian and widower, having lost his wife, Ella, to cancer in 1930. They married in abt. 1940 and moved into the North Albany neighborhood in Benton County, near her parents. Her mother had died in 1932 and her father died from stomach cancer in June, 1942. Elizabeth would have inherited her parents' property, along with the variety of plants that her father had collected for his nursery. Frank had been a farmer in Suver, a small town N. of Jefferson in Marion County, but now moved with his two daughters as it was the perfect situation for Frank and Elizabeth to go into the retail floral business. Frank & Elizabeth purchased a floral shop and successfully operated their retail business for many years. But Elizabeth had had arteriosclerosis for 15 years (diagnosed in about 1945) and was finally too ill for Frank to be able to care for her in the home any longer, and she was far too ill to continue to work at their floral shop. Sadly, he had to admit Eizabeth into Reids Nursing Home in late April, 1960, but would visit her whenever he was able. Just four months after being placed there, on Sept 3rd, 1960, Elizabeth suffered from Apoplexy of the Brain and within two hours, she died. Frank was a widower once again. He had his wife of about twenty years buried at the Masonic Cemetery in Albany, Linn County, Oregon, the same cemetery where her parents had been laid to rest, sharing a headstone. She is buried there under the name "Elizabeth Ackerman". Frank Ackerman died in Aug. 1973 and was buried with his 1st wife, Ella F. Ackerman, in Riverside Cemetery, Albany, OR.
