Viola Jordan had been born to Melissa J (Darrow) and Roswell B. Jordan of Illinois, who had emigrated from the mid-West to Oregon to find new land to farm. Young Viola was born Nov 6, 1904 in Crabtree, a small town East of Albany in Linn County. She met Roland G. Allen, who was also a child of emigrants from Michigan. He stated he had been born in Oct., 1903 on his family's farm in Tangent, Linn County, Oregon. They became married in 1921, when she was probably 17 yrs. of age. However, I don't find proof of any pregnancies or children until Dec 16th, 1925 when Viola was admitted to the Albany hospital in critical condition, having suffered from a seizure during her 5th month of pregnancy. Her blood pressure would have been elevated and she would also have had problems with edema, as she was diagnosed with Eclampsia. Roland was a farmer, living near his parents who had most likely given him a portion of their land when he 1st wed Violet. Tragically, Viola didn't make it through the night, dying on Dec 16th, 1925 and the unborn baby dying with her, unable to survive outside it's mother or due to the seizures and other difficulties it's mother had endured prior to her demise. I was surprised that her husband wasn't listed anywhere on her death certificate, causing a search for a man with the last name of Allen who had been born in @1900 or so, who was also a farmer, living in Tangent. He was living in Tangent in 1930, per the census taken that year, and he had remarried. His wife was Eula L. (Harris) Allen, b.@1896 who had a daughter from a prior relationship named Linna Mae Harris. Linna had been born in Oregon in 1925. I can only assume she was still married until after her child's birth, as this was the state law at that time, to prevent any question of paternity. She said she'd been living in Tangent in 1930 and she and Roland had a son, Kenneth Earnest Allen in 1932. There was also a child, Keith J. Allen, b.1926, who was raised by his grandparents, Ernest R. and Maria G. Allen, Roland's parents. Tragically, Ernest was crushed by a bull on Jan 25, 1944. Maria passed in 1955 and was buried with him at Riverside Cemetery, Albany. Viola was buried, also, at Riverside Cemetery, but only with her unborn child as Roland would be buried with Eula [it states Eola on the grave they share] when they both came to the ends of their respective lives in Tangent, Linn County, Oregon.
