Robert Edward Edkin, 87, of Lamar, passed away in his home in Lamar on Saturday, March 29, 2014.
He was born July 17, 1926 in Queens Run (Lock Haven), a son of the late Thomas and Eliza Mae Edkin. Robert served in the Army as anti-tank gun crewman during World War II. He served in the Philippine Islands and mainland Japan until his honorable discharge on October 16, 1946. He was employed for many years at the Sylvania Plant in Mill Hall. Upon its closing Robert was employed at Penn State University where he retired. Robert was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, enjoyed spending time with his brother, and camping and fishing especially at Little Pine Creek Dam.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy and Art Keller of Beavertown with three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and Joyce Davidson of Lynchburg, VA with two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceeded in death by both his parents, Thomas and Eliza Mae, and his brother, Mahlon.
A gravesite memorial service was held at Rest Haven Memorial Park for the immediate family on Friday April 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Officiating was Mary Lou Houtz of the Clintondale and Lamar United Methodist Churches. The pallbearers were male members of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Yost-Gedon Funeral Home handled all the funeral arrangements.
