Born Nov. 24, 1924, in Decatur, he was a son of the late Barzie and Lulu (Knapp) Arrowsmith.
He retired from the Alton Telegraph after 27 years of service. The U.S. Army World War II veteran was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He married the former Kathleen Tabor Nov. 18, 1947, in Centralia. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Frank Nickle of Godfrey; a son, Alan Arrowsmith of Alton; and three grandchildren, Amanda and Samantha Nickle and Jason Lee Arrowsmith.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Guy Arrowsmith, and a grandson, Michael Sandbach.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton, where services will be at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Andre Dobson officiating.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Deadmond Cemetery in Odin, Ill.
