Letha Christine Allen died January 4, 1999 at her home in Gentry, Arkansas at the age of 90. She was born September 13, 1908 in Elmore City, Oklahoma to John Vaught Thornton and Bertha Mae Vandiver Thornton.

She was a longtime resident of Gentry, Arkansas. Prior to moving to Gentry, she worked as a home demonstration agent for 5 years in western Oklahoma. She was a graduate of East Central State Teachers College in Ada, Oklahoma. She retired in 1974 after teaching in the Gentry Public Schools for 20 years.

Mrs. Allen was a member of AEA and NEA and a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Gentry, where she was active in Women in Mission, Senior Saints, and Women's Bible Study. She was an avid quilter and made hundreds of lap robes that she gave to local nursing homes.

She was a tribal member of the Choctaw Nation. A very loved member of her community, she had a tremendous influence on the more than 400 students whom she taught. She was very active and involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Allen in 1970, two stepsons, Rex Allen and Billy Joe Allen, and a grandson, James Robert Hall.

She is survived by two daughters, Amanda Hall of Vinita, Oklahoma and Johnetta Young, of Gentry, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Craig Hall of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Katie Hall of Vinita, Oklahoma; Christine Marveggio and Ryan Young, both of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; a stepson, Charles Allen of Long Beach, California; a brother, Earnest Thornton of Sacramento, California; one niece, two nephews, and numerous cousins.
