Betty Adams, 66, of Columbia died Wednesday, March 22, 1995, at Boone Hospital
Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church
with the Rev. Paul H. Moessner officiating. Burial will be in Columbia
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Parker
Funeral Service.

Mrs. Adams was born on July 6, 1928, to Walter A. and Retta Woodward Smith in
Oleny, Md.

She married Nicholas A. Adams on April 2, 1946, in Miami, Fla., and he
survives.

She lived in Columbia for 25 years after leaving Monroe, La. She was a member
of St. Andrews Lutheran Church and was the director of the voluntary action
center for eight years. She was a deputy juvenile officer for Boone County for
several years. She was in charge of fund-raising for the Arthritis Foundation
in Columbia. She worked for Mid-Missouri Legal Services as a paralegal since
1985. She graduated from Dobbins High School in Philadelphia, and earned a
bachelor's degree in social work from Columbia College. She was a volunteer
for many organizations and had received several citations for her volunteer
work, including one from President Ronald Reagan.

Survivors include a son, Nicholas A. Adams Jr. of Huntingtown, Md.; three
daughters, Faith Suzanne Ballard of Camdenton, Hope Michelle Henderson of
Harrisburg and Retta Yvonne McLaughlin of Columbia; nine grandchildren; and a
great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Timothy Adams.
