Matthew* James Errico, Sr. was the son of Vincenzo** and Elisa Scotti. His mother immigrated to the United States circa 1912 and settled in Wilmerding, Pennsylvania where her twin sisters Concetta and Letizia lived with their families. Elisa was the youngest daughter of Carmine and Maria Giovanna Scotti who lived in Agropoli, Italy. Matthew's siblings were:

Frank, b. 1920
Anna, b. 1921
Filomena, b. 1923
Rita, 1925-2009

Sometime after the 1920 Federal Census and before 1925, the Errico family moved to Dyker Heights Brooklyn, NY. Vincenzo's brother Frank, along with Elisa's niece lived on the same block where the family continued to live as of the 1940 Federal Census.

Matthew worked as an auto mechanic during the late 1930s and early 1940s. He completed 3 years of High School. Matthew enlisted with the U.S. Army on August 11, 1942 and served our country for the duration of WWII.
