Arnold started out as a youth taking fitness and gymnastic classes at Concordia Turners in St. Louis, Missouri. After excelling as a gymnast and all-around athlete,he entered the Normal College of the American Turners in 1940 where he trained to be an instructor of physical education. His education was interrupted during World War ll while her served with distinction in the United State Marine Corps. He then returned to the Indiana University under the Normal College program to complete his training in physical education. He did additional studies in physical education at Notre Dame University, where he received a Master Degree. He went to work as an instructor with Moline Turnverein in Moline, Illinois and them with the Linclon Turners in Chicago, Illinois. After this he returned to St. Louis and workedin Automobile sales and service business like his father before him. When Concordia Turner's instructor died in 1963 the Society's Board of Directors approached Arnold and he became their full time instructor until her retired in 1986. Arnold served the American Turners in many ways on both District and National Levels. He served two terms as Chairperson of the National Health and Physical education Committee.( 1968—1972). He also served as Regional Representative to National Health and Physical Education Committee when regions existed and served as district representative to the National Health and Physical Ed. Committee. He served as head instructor at several National leaders Courses for the American Turners in St. Louis in 1975. His turnfest had over 1000 competitors and is considered by may to be one of the best run turnfest ever. After he retired he continued to make himself useful to the Society, District and National Level. He received the National Gold Honor Key Award. He loved his work and received many awards over the years. He love to Fish and go camp. He love trips to the country and going on nature walks. He is very missed.
