Born May 3, 1943, in Peoria, she was the daughter of William and Zora (Songer) Hedger. She married Burdette W. Ahlstrom on Sept. 11, 1960.
She is survived by daughters, Patricia (Scott) Minkler, of Streator, and Solita (Jerry Gossett) Ahlstrom, of Naplate; sons, Dean Ahlstrom, of Streator, Gene (Sue) Ahlstrom, of Streator, and Curtis (Heather) Ahlstrom, of Streator; a sister, Edith Patton, of Streator; a brother, Dale (Nancy) Hedger, of Oglesby; and 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Elaine Lanning; brothers, Lyle Hedger and Sonny Brewer; and her ex-husband who passed away June 2, 2015.
Raised in the Lacon and Sparland area, she spent most of her life in the Manville and Streator area.
She worked for Thatcher's Glass for over 20 years.
Joan enjoyed bowling and belonged to the Women's Bowling Congress. She also bowled in several leagues.
She loved the outdoors and especially gardening.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
