Miguel Juan Descartes, 37, of Arkansas City, passed away suddenly Thursday (November 8, 2012) at Galichia -Wesley Heart Hospital of Wichita.
Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (November 14, 2012) at the First United Methodist Church of Arkansas City. The family will greet friends 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
Miguel was born September 10, 1975, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to Miguel and Miriam (Loyola-Feliciano) Descartes-Vilaro. He attended local schools in Puerto Rico. He moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautics. Later, he also graduated from Cowley College with a degree in Applied Science in Engineering.
He met and married the love of his life Michelle Schindler on July 14, 2001. The family relocated to Haysville, in 2001, when Miguel accepted a position with General Electric Jet Engine Services at Strother Field. In 2003, the family moved to Arkansas City where they made their home. He has worked for G.E. as a jet engine mechanic for last eleven years.
Those left to cherish is memory include his wife Michelle of the home; two sons; Joseph of the home and Jamil of Illinois; his parents Miguel and Miriam of Ponce, Puerto Rico; grandmother Alicia Feliciano Rivera; sisters Mariali Descartes-Loyola and husband Jorge Roman, Marielle Descartes-Loyola and husband Alberto Sanchez; brother Miguel S. Descartes-Loyola and wife Anelice Santana-Acevedo; and several nieces and nephews all of Puerto Rico. Miguel was a devoted, die-hard St. Louis Cardinal fan. He enjoyed hiking and walking every morning with his four legged friends, Gracie Lynn, Little Lily, and Sir Maxalot. He loved spending time with neighbors, family, and friends. Miguel had an infectious smile, humor and personality, that will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Salvador C. Decartes-Sauri and wife Margarita Vilaro-Saez, and Juan E. Loyola-Lopez.
