Habernigg, Charles H. 79 Feb. 16, 1933 April 13, 2012 Charles H. Habernigg ("Chuck" to many of his friends), of Portland, passed away on April 13, 2012 after fighting cancer of the central nervous system. He was 79. Chuck was born Feb. 16, 1933 in Blackwell, Okla. He moved to Wichita, Kan., in elementary school, where he lived until graduating from Wichita High School North. He was president of his high school class, enjoyed playing three sports, and was most proud of writing his high school's alma mater. He told many stories about the wonderful people he knew in Wichita. He received a Baker scholarship to Oberlin College and graduated from Oberlin in 1954. He later attended Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School and graduated from Yale Law School in 1959. In 1959, he married his wife, Jill, and moved to Oregon to practice law. He served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Portland until 1967, when he left for a two year stint as Attorney General of American Samoa, where he and his family enjoyed living in Pago Pago for two years. After returning to Portland, he was a partner in a several law firms. Chuck was an accomplished pianist and singer. He was a big picture thinker, a politics watcher, and a great joke teller. He enjoyed photography, biking and gadgets of all types. He was very kind and enjoyed the company of people from all walks of life.
