After the death of her husband in Illinois, Rachel packed he belongings and the 9 children in a covered wagon, and moved to Lincoln county, Kansas, in April 1878. She raised all of them to adulthood, while accumulating several quarter sections of land in the Golden Belt township. Some of her children moved on to the Winston, Mo and the Fairvieiw OK area.
Son Truman died from a buggy accident in near Ellsworth.
