Floyd passed early on the morning of the New Year, January 1, 2011. Born to wheat farmers, on January 6, 1932 Dan and Bertha Schrader in Lind, WA. Nathaniel "Dan" Schrader immigrated from Alft, Russia at the age of 16 in 1920. He settled in Lind, WA where he met and married Bertha Rott, whose parents immigrated from Johannestal, Russia in 1890. In 1950 he graduated from Lind High School. He soon moved away to California to pursue his career at Southern California Bible College in Costa Mesa. There he met his first wife, Elaine Beacham and raised his two children in Redondo Beach, son, Scott and daughter, Lori. He entered the US Navy and served in the Korean War. He went on to study police science. In 1959, he graduated from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and went to work as a patrolman for the Redondo Beach Police Department. He retired as a captain in 1985.
Some of dad's favorite memories include his training at the FBI academy in Quantico, VA; trips he made with his beloved brother, Mel to such places as the Yangtze River and the Great Wall of China, frequent trips to Mexico and camping at White Wolf in Yosemite and Devils Postpile with his children. Dad loved his garden and always grew fresh vegetables. He spent a life time being family, friends and neighbors "Mr. Fix it Man" and enjoyed many hours working in his workshop. Dozens of people have homemade bird houses in their yardsfrom Floyd.
After retirement, Floyd moved to Victorville, but returned to San Pedro. He will be missed by many. Floyd is survived by his son, Scott Schrader of Bodfish, CA; and daughter, Lori Schrader Leonardi of Kernville, CA; sister, Norma Snead of Moses Lake, WA; sister, Louella Hall of Portland, OR; brother, Mel Schrader of Spokane, WA and his favorite aunt, Frieda of Seattle, WA.
