John Wesley was the first son born to Rev. James B. Allen and Rebecca Nitt. He had three siblings James Allen, William Duncan Allen, and Sarah Allen. John Married Rutha Banks Thames on 25 Oct 1866 in Shelby County Alabama. Together they had eleven children; Perdelia, Velma Lee, Mary Frances, Charles, Annie Lanora, Adabelle Zora, Belanir, Eliza Parlee, John Russell, Louie Electra, and Judson Ellis. Perdelia was a stepchild but was raised as one of his own children. John fought in the civil war for the south and was captured and sent to a military prison in the north. In the prison camp, they were given a chance to leave but had to serve in the Union Army for the duration of the war. He chose to leave the prison camp and served as a cook in the Union Army. After the war was over he had to sneak back home after serving in the Union Army.
