This memorial is dedicated to my second great grandfather James. He was the son of James Duncan Coker Sr. and Sarah E. Crane.
He was born on December 13, 1852 and left this world on February 23, 1948 in England, Lonok County, Arkansas. He married Matha Bearden Yow (name Yow from a previous marriage) on June 24, 1877 in Conway County, Arkansas.

When James was about two years old his father passed away. There are court papers in the Conway County, Arkansas court house that after the death of James Sr., A huge custody battle ensued between his paternal grandparents Seaborn C. and Mary Miles Coker and his mother.
Seaborn went to court to maintain custody of his two grandchildren James Jr and Mary. At one time there was a hearing for the return of Mary from Martin Crane and Jerusha Moseley who were her maternal grandparents.
Seaborn and his wife Mary was awarded custody of the two children.
James's mother Sarah re-married a man named Thomas McBurnitt, he was almost 30 years older.
