This memorial is dedicated to my forth great grandfather Old Sol.
He was the son of David Collins and Thompsie Posting. He married Delila Nichols on Oct. 1, 1812 in Clairborne County, Tennesee.
He served in two wars the War 1812 and the Civil War
Solomon was a vetern of the War of 1812 according to the article in the West Plains Daily Quill by Marvin Oaks June 19, 1997.
He also served in the Civil War at the age of 77 years, declaring his age as 44 years, the limit for entry. his description was dark complexion, blue eyes, grey hair, height five foot seven inches.
Solomon was one of the main supporters of early schools in Morgon County, Indiana. He was also the first family in the Willow Springs Township of Howell County, Missouri.
Sol and Delila was the parents of eleven children
Jane "Jinsey", Charlotta, Spenser, Mahala, Rebecca, Levi, George, Abigail (my third great grandmother), Tipton, Harrison and Clinton.

Solomon "Old Sol" was the first family in the Willow Springs Township of Howell County, Missouri. Solomon Collins served in the War of 1812, and also lied about his age and served in the Civil War. He said he was 44 years old, when in reality he was in his 70's. For serving in the war of 1812, he was awarded 40 acres of land in Wright County, Missouri and 120 acres in Douglas County Missouri. He enlisted in 1862 in the Phelps Regiment, along with his sons Tipton, and
Harrison. He reportedly went home after 3 month because of illness. There are many recorded stories about Solomon, in Douglas County History books. He was a legend...
