He left high school early to serve in the Merchant Marine on a T2 tanker (7th Fleet) during World War II. Post war he served with the U.S. Army in Okinawa. During the Korean conflict he served with the 121st Evacuation Hospital as an X-ray technician, U.S. Army.
Post high school education was at Everett Junior College, Seattle University, and Western Washington College of Education (Bellingham). He earned his teaching and principal certification at WWCE and his B.A. and M.A. in Education.
Preceding Keith in death were his father, Ed, mother, Anna, son, Gerald, and brothers, Wesley and Gale.
