Obituary of Ruth Danielson
Ruth Danielson, age 93, of Bird Island, MN, died Monday, April 20, 2015 at Homestead at Anoka where she has recently resided. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Bird Island United Methodist Church with Rev. Byron Perrine officiating. Visitation is Saturday at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Bird Island Methodist Church. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Bird Island. Ruth Marjorie Danielson was born May 28, 1921, at Renville, MN, to Peter and Kittie (McBroom) Wiersma. The family moved to Olivia in 1923 and she graduated from Olivia High School in 1939. Ruth attended Hutchinson Teachers Training Department and then taught in country school from 1940-1943. She married Alvin "Danny" Danielson on December 21, 1942, at Carthage, MO. Danny and Ruth made their home in Bird Island and were the parents of three children. Ruth continued her education at Mankato and St. Cloud State. She taught in various schools in Renville County as an elementary teacher, as well as remedial math, and reading teacher. Later she was a tutor and a substitute teacher retiring in 1982. Ruth was a member of Bird Island United Methodist Church where she held various offices and a past member of the Bird Island Library Board. She enjoyed traveling, volunteer work, gardening, playing Bridge, dancing with Danny at the Bird Island Ballroom, and reading to residents at the Bird Island Manor. Is Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sisters: Doris Watson, Edith Wiersma, Alice Anderson; and her brothers: Bill Wiersma and Lyle Wiersma. Blessed Be Her Memory
