Ahn Junggeun was born on September 27, 1997. He was a member of the 10th grade class #7 at Danwon High School in Ansan, South Korea. He lived for 16 years, 6 months and 20 days.
Junggeun was a huge sports fan. He loved baseball and soccer, and his favorite team was the Doosan Bears. He also loved to play the bass guitar.
Junggeun was a victim of the Sewol Ferry disaster. On April 16, 2014, the MV Sewol en route from Incheon to Jeju Island capsized. There were 476 people on board, mostly high school sophomores from Danwon High School, who were on their way to Jeju Island for a school field trip. When the ship was sinking, Junggeun had given his life jacket to a friend before jumping in the water to try and save others. He was found, unresponsive, by a fisherman shortly after. After CPR was administered, he was rushed to a hospital where he died two hours later. He was the first fatality of the sinking.
Junggeun is now resting at the Pyeongtaek Lakeside Memorial Park.
