Al (Popz or Pop) was born to Albert Marson Brinkley and Mattie Dru Bell Brinkley. He was the oldest of six children. He was raised in Arkansas but settled in Raymondville, Texas.

Siblings:
Billie Brinkley, Texas
Florence Brinkley Jean, Magnolia, AR
Opal Brinkley Moore, Stone Mountain, GA
Travis Brinkley, Texas
James "Jim" Dixon Brinkley, Texas #50238051

Al married Mary Helen Savage of Raymondville, Tx, and they raised a family of six children:
Angie Squyres
Robin Holmes
Albert Marson (Stormy) Brinkley III
Patti Dru Schlesinger (Larry)
Juli Dearington (John)
Scot Brinkley

Al was active in the agriculture and ranching communities and was a deacon for many years in the First Baptist Church, Raymondville, TX.

Notable achievements were Al's involvement in minor league baseball in Galveston, TX during his young adult years.

While on his tour of duty in the Army Air Corps, he was a tail gunner on a B24 bomber during WWII and he was awarded several medals during his military career, including the Soldier's Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star, Silver Star, Philippine Liberation with bronze star, Good Conduct Medal, and Air Medal with 2 bronze clusters. The Soldier's Medal was awarded for risking his life to save fellow servicemen during a white phosphorus fire.

Following the war, Al served as a Captain in the National Guard. He held a private pilot's license and a ham-radio operator's license. Al was a member of the Wimberley VFW.

During the mid 1970's he was hired by the U.S. government to lead an agriculture experiment to remote areas of Indonesia. He taught Indonesian farmers techniques used for growing cotton, milo and several other crops.

Al enjoyed wildlife, feeding the deer by hand, squirrels and birds.

Al is survived by his wife Mary Helen, of Wimberley, TX and children, Angie Squyres of San Marcos, Robin Holmes of Arlington, TX, Patti Dru Schlessiger (Larry) of Comfort, TX, Juli Dearrington (John) of Wimberly, TX, Albert Marson "Stormy" Brinkley III of Australia, Scot Brinkley of Wimberly, TX, eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchilren.

There was a processional to a memorial service for Al at the Veterans Memorial Plaza at the Emily Ann Theatre in Wimberley, Texas atop the hill. The Air Force Honor Guard raised flags, taps was played and the bag piper sent him off playing Amazing Grace beside a distant tree, and the family bid farewell with a release of red, white and blue balloons.

Upon conclusion of the ceremony, there was a celebration of life to honor Al on his birthday at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall for food, fellowship and birthday cake in celebration of his being in the presence of our Saviour.

Donations can be made in his honor to the theatre at www.emilyann.org
