German-American film actress; she was born Philippine Amann in Germany to American parents. She started her film career in the United States with the film "The Kick-Off" in 1926. Her best known film was "Asphalt" which was made in Germany in 1929. Her first sound film was "Hans in allen Gassen", also made in Germany in 1930. She worked in England, where she appeared in the Alfred Hitchcock film, "Rich and Strange" in 1931. She returned to the United States in 1933 where she appeared in several more films until 1943 when she made her last film, "Isle of Forgotten Sins". She married David Stillman, then retired to raise her family. She died at the age of 83.
