Graveside rites for Alex C. Barnes were held at 11 o'clock at the veteran's plot of the Columbia City cemetery with Father Andrew Tynan officiating.

Mr. Barnes, 69, died on a Sunday at his home in Sonora. He was a native of Arkansas and had lived in Sonora for the last six months of his life. He was a veteran of World War I.

Survivors included a sister, Mrs. Treba Maples of Blythe. He also had a sister, Maude H. Hall of Bakersfield.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Heuton Memorial chapel.

Alex claimed to have been born in El Centro, Imperial County, California. He also claimed to have been born in Missouri and in Oklahoma and maybe Arkansas. However, he was living at 1103 O Street, Sacramento, California, on April 30, 1942. Today there are State of California departments located there in large, newer buildings.

Alex was a welder and a veteran of WWI. He broke his left elbow, which crippled his left arm. In 1942, he was unemployed.

Alex was 5 feet 10 or 11 inches tall and weighed at 150 pounds. He had blue eyes, brown hair and a ruddy complexion. He had a tattoo on his left arm.

I have not been able to find Alex C. Barnes in the census, at least not a match to his birth date. His birth date remains consistent in his records, but his place of birth does not. I have put in order what I have found for Alex C. Barnes.
