C. Richard Bacigalupi was born in Los Angeles to Chester J. and Katheryn J. Bacigalupi (Nee Katheryn Shefitenkl). The family lived on West 43rd Street. His father was a truck driver for a milling company.
He joined the Navy in 1945 where he served as a third-class machinist's mate. That same year, June 27, 1945, he married his wife Barbara.
In 1947, the couple moved to Sonora where he owned and operated Mother Lode Refrigeration Service for 10 years, working as an air conditioning and refrigeration contractor.
In 1970, he was employed by Pacific Architects and Engineers as air conditioning refrigeration supervisor, chief of mechanical division, based in Saigon, Vietnam.
He was a Peace Corps volunteer as instructor at MARA Vocational Training Institute at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 1972 to 1975.
He worked for International Union Oil Company of Indonesia as a refrigeration and air conditioning supervisor, a mechanical supervisor, and as a production support specialist from 1976 to 1983 in Borneo. During this time, he lived in Singapore while commuting to Borneo.
While he lived in Southeast Asia, he and his wife traveled and toured Thailand, the Philippines and Sri Lanka.
Upon retiring, they traveled throughout Central Europe, the United Kingdom, Russia, Ireland and Greece.
After returning to their ranch east of Columbia, they continued to travel throughout North and Central America, logging more than 100,000 miles over a decade.
He served as a volunteer at Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice of the Sierra for 10 years, was a Jamestown Boy Scout master, and was one of the founders of the Sonora Archery Club.
He is greatly missed by his loving family.
