Died age 78 at his home near Shaws Flat following several weeks of illness. John had been retired for several years. He was formerly in the jewelry business in Sonora and also engaged in mining. He was survived by his wife, Louise, and his son John, both of Sonora. The year prior to his death the Barklas celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. John was a resident of Tuolumne County the 49 years preceeding his death. Rev. R.C. Stahl officiated at the funeral services held at Burden Chapel.
