Enlisted October 17, 1864 in the Confederate States of America Army. Served in Company "F", 45th NC Infantry and was captured at Petersburg, VA on April 2, 1865. Taken prisoner of war by Union authorities and brought to Point Lookout prison. Died in prison on June 9th, 1865.

He married Lindsay Jackson on Feb 6, 1854 in Stokes County, NC. His brother-in-law, John Madison Jackson, also died at Point Lookout.
