A mistake in administering or preparing quinine resulted in her death. She was the 19-year old daughter of slave parents Charles W. & Lucy Ellis and born in Buchanan, Va. The Ellis family lived at 203 Oak street when Millie became ill. The attending physician prescribed quinine. A prescription was filled but an overdose given. The drug was purchased at the drug store of John H. Shallcross. Her death caused for a large obituary to appear in local papers. The undertaker was listed as Fisher and she was interred on September 15, 1886. Interment No. 13622. She rests in an unmarked grave in Section 33 of Green Lawn Cemetery.
