A native of Ridgecrest, N.C., she was the wife of Cameron Wilton Hawkins, who survives and the daughter of William Pittman and Sarah Aletha "Sally" Hollifield Pittman, both deceased. She was a retired school teacher, a member and past president of the Senior Democrats and the Alamance County Democratic Women. Mrs. Hawkins was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible school teacher, council member, evangelist and chairman for 20-plus years. For 47 consecutive years, she attended the Lutheran State Conference and was president of the Church Women United for Ala-Guild.
In addition to her husband of their home, survivors include her daughter, Karen Marcia Martin and husband Cletus John Martin of Snow Camp; three sons, Robert Hawkins of Sandy Run, S.C., Steve Hawkins and wife Polly of Burlington and Jerry Hawkins of the home; three grandsons, Barry Martin, Jeffrey Christian Martin and Fiance Hannah Louise Carpenter and William Hawkins; and a sister, Sue Wilson of Kernersville.
The funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Nathan D. Hooks. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
