Earl was the son of Horace and Jesse Carrie Snell Higdon. He was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1928 in Parkin, Arkansas. Earl's middle name was taken from the physician who delivered him, a Dr. Miller. Earl is a retired US Air Force sergeant who served in three (3) wars - World War II, Korea, Vietnam; Was a Korean POW for 10 months (August, 1951-June, 1952); Earl was Chief Flight Engineer for a B-52 out of U-Tapau Air Base; Served in US Marines, US Army & US Air Force during his military career; Awarded Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, WWII Victory Medal to name a few; Tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team in Spring of 1945, offered contract but because he was a minor parents refused to sign contract (it was claimed they did not want him corrupted by the 'Big City') (Note: This information was supplied by older brother William.)

Married Barbara Montgomery on April 7, 1954 (Divorced 1982); they had six children – Jeffery Earl, Gregory Alan, Carrie Catheleen, Meri Jo, Francis Patrick (Tater), and Jana Eileen. One of the memories most have of his is he had the knack to nick name all his nieces and nephews.

Earl passed away in the early morning of June 1, 2003 at N. MS Baptist Hospital, Oxford, Mississippi, after a long illness. His eldest son, Jeffery, participated in the memorial service prior to the burial, as he did 12 year prior for his mother and four years prior for his maternal grandfather.
