Kathleen Ann (Ryan) Bedard, 44, of Proprietor's Place died on Monday, December 14, 2009 in the Jewish Healthcare Center after a short and valiant battle with brain cancer.

Kathy leaves her loving husband Stephen Bedard and their three children; James Bedard, 21, John Bedard, 18, and Valerie Bedard, 16, all of Rutland; her parents Gerald and Marguerite (Daly) Ryan of Paxton; two sisters, Elizabeth Swikart and her husband Edward of New Jersey and Jennifer O'Connor and her husband Kevin of Virginia; a brother, William Ryan and his wife Erika of New Jersey; many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Kathy was predeceased by her grandparents Leo and Glenna (Walsh) Ryan and John and Julia (O'Connor) Daly.

Kathy graduated from Notre Dame Academy and received a nursing degree from Boston College. She was a registered nurse and worked in the cardiac care units at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. She also coordinated a diabetes research study for Dr. Paul Lock where she enjoyed helping people to manage their illnesses and receive needed medical treatment. An avid lover of animals, Kathy was a competitive horsewoman and later worked at the Rutland Veterinary Clinic where she shared her love of all animals.

Kathy's greatest joy in life has always been her children. With them she shared her creative side as an artist expressing herself with quilting, sculpting, drawing, painting, and costume design. Kathy mentored nieces, nephews and friends in addition to her own children.

Calling hours are on Thursday, December 17th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Her funeral will be on Friday from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Columba Church, 10 Richards Ave., Paxton. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery, Richards Ave., Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewish Home Hospice, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609 who made it possible for Kathy to pass gracefully and with dignity.
