Walter was born May 25th, 1929, in Herkimer, NY. He is the son of the late Peter and Catherine Buchinski of Herkimer. Walter attended Herkimer schools. Walter served his country in the National Guard for six years, starting in 1948; he was Honorably Discharged in 1954. He was employed by the Standard Desk Company in Herkimer, in various trades, for over 32 years, until it went out of business; he then was employed by The Library Bureau Company in Herkimer until his retirement; after his retirement he continued to work part-time for the Herkimer County Office for the Aging for several years delivering meals for The Meals On Wheels program and driving program participants to appointments.
Walter was a life long resident of Herkimer. He was married to Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Gonyea on August 18th, 1951 in Herkimer, NY, at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Walter & Elizabeth enjoyed 55 years of marriage together, until her passing on November 5th 2007.
Walter is survived by three sons; Ronald and his wife Patricia, of Ferndale, WA; Walter, of Utica, NY; Michael and his wife Patricia, of Herkimer. Walter was predeceased by a brother, Michael, of Little Falls, NY. He was also predeceased by five sisters; Clara Bokowski of Herkimer, NY; Mary Klimo of Philadelphia, PA; Francis Hyrniak of Gloversville, NY; Paulina Bergman of Johnstown, NY; Anna Edick of Broadalbin, NY. Walter is also survived by nine wonderful grandchildren; ten beautiful great grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 30, 2013 at 1:00 pm from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi and Burns Funeral Home, 329 South Washington Street, Herkimer, NY. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Saturday March 30, 2013 from 11:00am until the times of the services. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, NY. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Vincent A.
