He married Deborah "Dora" Hill Read on 14 August 1862. Their !st daughter was born in 1863, Elaine. At a young age she became a Poet and would marry Charles Eastman, A native American Medical doctor and Author. In 1866 followed another daughter, Dora, Also an early poet. In 1870 the third daughter, Rose, was born. One of his Poetic masterpieces appeared in Harper's Magazine, Illustrated by Arthur Frost (1851-1928). In 1877 his only son by Dora was born. In 1882 the Goodales separated. Henry moved to New York. He called it "Sky Parlor". It was there Elaine and Charles had their wedding reception. Henry bought the Amherst property, which was destroied by fire in may 1807. Son Robert and Henry rebuilt the cottage and named it Loestone (magnet).
