Son of George Travis Young and Georgia Chapman Young, he was born in Martin, Tennessee. He was formerly married to Cynthia Smith Young, with whom he had two children, Melanie Sue and Thomas Travis. He also leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Boyd Young; two grandchildren, Megan Young Dillehay (J.K.), and Kendrick Thomas; a soon-to-be-born great granddaughter, Vivian; two brothers, William Young (Ruth) and Buford Young (Jonna); his sister-in-law, Shirley Young; and his friend, Janie Yandell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Bertha Earle Young, his brother James Young, and his former parents-in-law, O.C. and Marjorie Smith.
