World War I Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during World War I In the United States Navy as a Seaman on board the "USS May". He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery on November 5, 1917. His citation reads “For courageous conduct. Cann found a leak in a flooded compartment and closed it at the peril of his life, thereby unquestionably saving the ship”. His Medal was awarded to him in 1918.
